Nassfeld: Austria's most southern, sunniest resort.
The accommodation
The 2**+ hotel is located in the Nassfeld valley and there is plenty for guests to do both on and off the snow. The centre can accommodate large or small groups in rooms for 4-6 students. All are en-suite and have a seating area as well, making them roomier than most.
The restaurant is sub-divided and serves buffet style meals so that even the most particular likes and dislikes can be catered for and vegetarians are not left out. There is a well stocked staff bar.
Facilities
Within the hotel there are meeting rooms for groups use, a games room with darts, table football and table tennis. In addition there is a sportshall where students can let off steam at the end of the day - always supposing that they have any energy left! Outside the hotel is its very own beginner slope where the first tentative runs are made before going up the mountain to the many and varied slopes - and to check the all-important boot fit. The local Aquarena is easily accessible and provides an enjoyable alternative activity at the end of a day.

The skiing
Despite being Austria's sunniest resort (with about 15 per cent more sunshine over the winter than the Tirolean resorts) Nassfeld also claims to be one of the snowiest. The major snowfall comes from the frequent visits by low pressure systems from the Adriatic rather than the northern systems that supply resorts in other parts of Austria. The weather systems from the sea provide heavy precipitation which falls as snow in Nassfeld. The main nursery slopes are at Tressdorferalm, at 1,590-metres, which is beside the second station of the Millennium Express. Having the beginners' slopes area here means that novices can be assured of good snow and be in the sun instead of being down at the bottom of the mountain, often with poorer quality snow cover and in the shade. There are two beginners' lifts here too for easy progression.
Nassfeld is an intermediates' resort par excellence. It is dripping with red runs where intermediates can improve themselves without being terrified. There is a choice of red runs from virtually every lift – many of them more blue than red, the higher certification just because of the occasional steeper pitch.
