Fornells Bay is almost completely enclosed, safe and protected from the waves. There are steady winds which make it the perfect place to have fun learning and practising sailing and windsurfing.
The bay has a nature reserve and its own coves, beaches and islands with lovely clear water and together with Addaia is the only natural harbour along the rugged, cliff-lined and rocky northern coastline.
Fornells is and always has been a fishing village. A natural harbour that has always earned its living by fishing lobsters. Moored in the tiny harbour you'll see the Ilauts, traditional fishing boats. Fornells is a modest authentic village. There are no, large modern hotels or apartment complexes here. The village lives for and from the sea. There are many beaches and coves within walking distance and that is where the modern hotels can be found The village has not been greatly affected by tourism; indeed most of the island is traditional and unspoilt.
The Sailing and Windsurfing
Courses can be arranged to suit your ability, level of interest and overall holiday needs. The duration of each course is also flexible to explain all the variants would be too lengthy. Contact us to discuss how the sailing will be part of your holiday
In addition, why not take the opportunity to go sailing for a half or full day and explore some of the bays inaccessible by car? We can arrange for you to sail for a half or full day with an experienced skipper on either a large catamaran or ketch including drinks, snacks and lunch. Contact us for details.
Your Accommodation
Our accommodation is based in the village of Fornells and comprises the 3* Ecohotel, or the 2* Hotel Palma. Both have a private pool and offer meals on a B&B basis. In Es Mercadal we also offer the Hotel Jenny. In all cases there are numerous opportunities for dining out in the evenings at reasonable prices.
